I truly believe that within all art, one must be comfortable in the most traditional and rudimentary approaches to creating. It is a linear history. Your predeccessors are both influential and fallible. But our tools of the trade are just that: TOOLS. Knowing and understanding the most primitive methods are, at the very least, crucial.
I use three cameras from three eras: Canon 30d (new), 1960’s Nikon 35mm, and a circa 1950 Roloflex Twin Lens. Obviously, the Canon 30d (2006) is used most frequently and without comprimise. However, I really learned how to use a camera and understand light by using my grandpa’s old 60’s era Nikon SLR.
